The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 restructures India's school system into a 5+3+3+4 design, replacing the previous 10+2 model. This new structure divides schooling into four stages: Foundational (ages 3-8), Preparatory (8-11), Middle (11-14), and Secondary (14-18). Each stage is designed to cater to specific developmental stages and learning needs, emphasizing holistic development, critical thinking, and flexibility in subject choices.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Foundational Stage  (5 years, ages 3-8):

This stage encompasses early childhood care and education (ECCE) through preschool (Anganwadi/pre-school) and the first two years of primary school (Grades 1-2). It focuses on play-based, activity-based, and interactive learning to foster cognitive, emotional, and social development.

Preparatory Stage  (3 years, ages 8-11, Grades 3-5):

This stage introduces more formal subjects like mathematics, science, and languages, but continues to emphasize experiential learning and hands-on activities.

Middle Stage  (3 years, ages 11-14, Grades 6-8):

Students begin to engage with more specialized subjects and critical thinking becomes a focus in the curriculum.
